Sam Fluit

Political psychologist

As a political psychologist, I am interested in how development over the life course affects people’s political attitudes and political behavior. I focus on longitudinal data spanning over multiple decades.

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Oslo, Norway. In my dissertation, I study how mental health and personal relationships longitudinally influence individuals’ psycho-political beliefs (trust in others, trust in the government, conspiracy beliefs), political attitudes (social dominance orientation, immigrant threat perceptions, gender equality perceptions), political party preferences, and voting behavior. As part of my PhD, I visited the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Survey at the University of Auckland.

My background is in Political Science and Social Psychology. I completed two master degrees (Social Psychology at Utrecht University, the Netherlands and Political Science at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands).

My academic side interest is in LGBTQ+ research.

I’m also a certified university teacher. I supervise bachelor and master students and lecture at the bachelor and master level in several courses at the University of Oslo. I completed a certified 200-hour pedagogical course at the University of Oslo.
